Flanders and the Netherlands will be guest of honour of the Frankfurter Buchmesse in October 2016, that’s no longer news. The Dutch Foundation for Literature and the Flemish Literature Fund are preparing the joint presentation of their literature and culture in full speed now. But they are not alone: In the Netherlands, the yearly Boekenweek (Book Week) aims at Germany, emphasizing the reciprocal nature of the project. Flemish children’s books are already doing great on the German-language market, with two prize winners of the Austrian Jury der Jungen Leser, and two nominations for the Jugendliteraturpreis in Germany later this year.
Furthermore, two more prize winners in this newsletter: comic book author Luc Cromheecke and poetry translator Ard Posthuma. You can read a blog post by Daniel Seton, editor at Pushkin Press, on the publishers tour for fiction that took place earlier this month. And we present the translators who are staying in our Translators’ House in June: Maria Encheva and Sofie Maertens.
