Erwin Mortier wins French pocket book prize

The French translation of ‘Gestameld liedboek’ (Stammered Songbook) by Erwin Mortier has won the Prix Transfuge du meilleur poche étranger, a French prize for the best foreign pocket book in translation.

Marie Hooghe translated the novel for publishing house Fayard (2013), after which it was published this year in pocket version by Libretto. ‘Psaumes balbutiés’ is an autobiographical account about the author’s mother, who becomes a victim of Alzheimer's disease. Previously, it won Mortier the prestigious French Prix du meilleur livre étranger. ‘Gestameld liedboek’ has also been translated in English, Spanish, Hungarian and Polish.
