Flemish illustrators of children's books are winning considerable international acclaim and translations of illustrated children's books from Flanders are on the rise. To show the international public and publishing world that the illustrators who are already well known by a broader audience constitute only a part of a large, highly talented generation of artists, the Flemish Literature Fund (FLF) has created a travelling exhibition and an accompanying book. Colouring Outside the Lines shows the work of 17 contemporary Flemish illustrators whose skill and creativity have enriched and expanded the world of children's literature.
The featured illustrators are Kristien Aertssen, Lieve Baeten, Sabien Clement, Carll Cneut, Erika Cotteleer, Gerda Dendooven, Goele Dewanckel, Sebastiaan Van Doninck, Pieter Gaudesaboos, Guido van Genechten, Ingrid Godon, Tom Schamp, André Sollie, Isabelle Vandenabeele, Klaas Verplancke, Paul Verrept and Geert Vervaeke.
Isabelle Vandenabeele and Tom Schamp will be present at the opening of the exhibition in Sarmede on the 18th of October. During an interview, they will introduce themselves and their work to the Italian public. The FLF will be represented at the event by its new head of international affairs, Inès de Bien, to continue the promotion of Flemish literature in Italy and abroad.
