The longlist for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award includes Paul Verhaeghen's novel ‘Omega Minor', which he translated into English himself. The award is the largest and most international prize of its kind. It involves libraries from all corners of the globe, and is open to books written in any language provided that they have also been published in English.
Verhaeghen is the only Belgian author on the list. In May 2008 he won the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize.
The list consists of 147 books, some by other Dutch-language writers whose work was translated into English. Cees Nooteboom, Kluun, Ariëlla Kornmehl, Saskia Noort and Heleen van Royen appear alongside world-renown names as Haruki Murakami, Ian McEwan, J.M. Coetzee, Philip Roth, Don De Lillo and Doris Lessing.
The International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award is worth 100.000 euro. The shortlist will be published in March or April 2009.
