Geert Van Istendael on BBC Radio Scotland

In May, BBC Radio Scotland broadcast a translation of 'Taalmachine' [Language Machine], a poem by Geert van Istendael, which the Flemish Literature Fund commissioned Willem Groenewegen to produce years ago for Poetry International Web.

The broadcast was part of the Written World programme. Each day, a poem is broadcast that gives an impression of one of the countries participating in the Olympic Games. For Belgium, BBC Radio Scotland chose an English translation of Van Istendaels 'Taalmachine', in which Brussels plays a major role. The poem was read in English by Günther Beelen, a Fleming who lives in the United Kingdom.
