Logo_BrusselsinShorts.jpgIn Brussels in Shorts, the literary organisation Het beschrijf, based in the international house of literature Passa Porta, aims to make an original contribution to the literary significance of Brussels by means of the relatively new literary medium of the graphic novel.

Brussels in Shorts has considerable ambitions in its quest to present the metropolis with some new stories. The call to take part was launched on 29 June 2011, addressing both Belgian and international artists and scenarists. Ten of the entries will be selected and their creators commissioned to complete short stories on contemporary Brussels in the graphic novel genre. The authors selected will receive a fee and accommodation in Brussels during the creation stages. Each graphic short story will make a reference to a common location: the Old Grain Market in the centre of Brussels.

A panel of experts will announce the winners in January 2012. The winners selected will be given until September 2012 to deliver the completed story. The members of the panel are Willem De Graeve, Charles Dierick, Johan Stuyck, Linda Torfs, Annelies Verbeke and Ever Meulen (chairman).

For this project, Het beschrijf is cooperating with the Oogachtend publishing company, which will publish the winning stories in an album.

31 October 2011 is the deadline for applications to take part.
