Eight illustrators selected for the 23rd International Biennial of children's book illustrations

The names of those illustrators taking part in the 23rd International Biennial for children's book illustrations in Bratislava (BIB) have been announced.


The eight chosen illustrators and their books are:

 

  • Ingrid Godon, Is het nog ver? [Is It Still far to Go?] (Querido, 2010)Bratislava International Biennial
  • Riske Lemmens, Meneer Grijs, een liefdesverhaal in kleur [Mr Grey, a love story in colour], author: Paul Verrept (De Eenhoorn, 2009) and Léon gromt [Leo Growls] (De Eenhoorn, 2011)
  • Geert Vervaeke, Een wel heel bijzondere kerst [A Really, Truly Extraordinary Christmas], author: Kristien In-'t-Ven (Lannoo, 2009)
  • Kristien Aertssen, Pootje na pootje [One Paw After Another], author: Riet Wille (De Eenhoorn, 2010)
  • Pieter Gaudesaboos, Tommie en de torenhoge boterham [Tommy and the Sky-High Sandwich], author Lorraine Francis (Lannoo, 2009)
  • Sabien Clement, Eksternacht [Night of the Magpie] illustrations: Pieter Gaudesaboos; author: Mieke Versyp] (Lannoo, 2010)
  • Kaatje Vermeire, Mare en de Dingen [Mare and the Things that Matter] author: Tine Mortier (De Eenhoorn, 2010)
  • Sebastiaan Van Doninck, Welterusten iedereen [Goodnight Everybody], author: Edward van de Vendel (De Eenhoorn, 2009)

 

The selection committee consisted of five experts. Charlotte Teeple (Canadian Children's Book Centre), Kris Demey (designer), Patrick Jordens (critic), Vanessa Joosen (academic) and Majo de Saedeleer (Stichting Lezen) selected these three illustrators.

 

The international illustrators exhibition in Bratislava runs from 2 September to 26 October 2011. During the Biennial, the prestigious BIB grand prize (to the value of $ 3,000) will be awarded together with five Golden Apples and five Medals for the best illustrations in the exhibition.
