'Sprakeloos' was published by Protea Boekhuis in Stellenbosch, a South-African publishing house that is showing a lot of interest in Dutch-language authors. They have published works by Tom Lanoye, Herman de Coninck, David Van Reybrouck, Anne Provoost, Anne Frank and Gerrit Komrij, for example. 'Sprakeloos' was translated by Daniel Hugo. He also translated Lanoye's 'Een slagerszoon met een brilletje' [A Butcher's Son with Spectacles] for the same publishers.
Since the publication of 'Sprakeloos' in 2009, the novel has been translated into French (La Différence). A German translation is in preparation.

It has been a long time since the last translation of Maurice Gilliams' 'Elias of het gevecht met de nachtegalen'. The most recent translation dates from 1997 and was a new translation into German. Translator Per Holmer can be thanked for making Gilliams' introspective, suggestive novella from 1936 accessible for the first time for Swedish readers. The book is published by CKM Förlag in Stockholm.
