Comic and graphic novel exhibition at Italian festival

'Ceci n'est pas la BD flamande' is travelling further within Europe. In early 2009, the original exhibition charmed visitors to the Angoulême International Comic Festival. At the Haarlem Comic Festival in 2010, an impressive spin-off premiered, which also stopped off in Cuba. From 29 April to 1 May, the exhibition will be hosted at the Comicon Festival in Naples.

The exhibition shows a fascinating choreography of projections and objects from twenty Flemish authors of comics and graphic novels, based on an idea by Didier Geirnaert and with film clips by Benjamin De Mulder.

Comic and Graphic Novel ExpoThis exhibition is based on the same twenty comic and graphic novel authors - Serge Baeken, Randall.C, Conz, Luc Cromheecke, Reinhart Croon, Pieter De Poortere, Brecht Evens, Stijn Gisquière, Ilah, Jeroen Janssen, Kim, Nix, Philip Paquet, Olivier Schrauwen, Kristof Spaey, Simon Spruyt, Stedho, Gerolf Van de Perre, Maarten Vande Wiele and Judith Vanistendael – but the mix of film and unique objects generates a surprising perspective on the authors, whose affinity with one another is based primarily on what they do and what they do not want to create. They are determined to produce something new, something different. The results of their approach are astonishingly different and the quality impressive.

Two authors featured in the exhibition will also be at the festival. Maarten Vande Wiele is travelling to Naples with a travel grant from the FLF. The festival also invited Nix.

You can find a presentation of the exhibition at the Flemish Literature Fund website.
