Traditionally, the Libris Literature Prize long list includes eighteen writers. In addition to the five Flemish writers, the following Dutch writers are also in the running: Gerbrand Bakker, Peter Buwalda, Adriaan van Dis, Esther Gerritsen, Arnon Grunberg, Mariëtte Haveman, Detlev van Heest, Piet Meeuse, Marente de Moor, Margriet de Moor, Hans Münstermann, Ernst Timmer and Pieter Waterdrinker.
The jury comprises chairman Philip Freriks, Ton Anbeek, Marijke Arijs, Louise Fresco and Jann Ruyters. On Monday 14 March, the long list will be thinned out to a list of just six authors. The festive award ceremony will be held on 9 May in the Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam and will be broadcast live in the Dutch news programme Nieuwsuur on Nederland 2.
The winner receives 50,000 euros. The total prize money to be awarded is 65,000 euros. Last year, the prize went to the Flemish author Bernard Dewulf for Kleine dagen (Small days).
