Angoulême pays tribute to Flemish comics

Just like in 2009, the Flemish Literature fund (FLF) continues to pay attention to the success of Flemish comic novels at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d'Angoulême. The Flemish comic book will receive a prominent place from January 27 till January 30 20111 in the French capital of comic strips.

The FLF will reopen its cafe 'Cafe BD Chez les Flamands', where the audience can buy Flemish comic strips, possibly in translation. Flemish and foreign publishers will meet each other there and authors will be signing their albums.

Three authors will visit Angoulême thanks to a special grant from FLF: Ephameron, Lectrr and Simon Spruyt. A number of other authors are to be expected, amongst them Brecht Evens ('Les noceurs'), and Olivier Schrauwen ('L'homme qui se laissait pousseur la barbe'). They have both been nominated for the 'Prix du Meilleur Album' of the Festival. Schrauwen was already nominated in 2007 for the same prize with 'Mon fiston' ('My boy').

On Friday January 28 the Flemish Literature Fund will organize, along with the Flemish delegation, Flanders Investment and Trade (FIT), Pinceel Stripverspreiding and Strip Turnhout, a 'Flemish evening' where authors and foreign contacts can meet each other. The FLF will be explaining its workings earlier in the day during a presentation for foreign publishers.
