Every year since 1948, the Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger has awarded a prize for the French translation of a novel and an essay. The ten-member jury consists of journalists from publications such as Libération and France Culture and representatives from prestigious publishing houses, including Plon, Seuil and Grasset. Other nominees in the fiction category are Gonçalo M. Tavares with 'Apprendre à prier à l'ère de la technique', Aleksandar Hemon with 'Le projet Lazarus' and Alon Hilu with 'La maison Rajani'.
Many renowned authors have already won the Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger, including Carlos Luis Zafon, Per Olof Enquist, Salman Rushdie, Mario Vargas Llosa and Jonathan Coe.
