Film adaptations of Flemish novels at Frankfurt

The Flemish Literature fund (FLF) and the Flemish Audiovisual Fund have put together an audiovisual impression, 'Look at Flanders', to present literature from Flanders to an audience of international publishers at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

From October 6 to October 10 2010, Frankfurt, in Germany, will once again be transformed into the largest book fair of the world. It is a prominent and strategically important marketplace for books, rights and licenses. The FLF has been present since 2003, and will continue to be so. This year, our booth can be found at 6.0.B940.

The main aim of the Book Fair is to build bridges between literature in various countries, but also to examine the close bonds between different art forms. Very often, the impact of a book is strenghtened by a film adaptation, but the film itself can also reach international standards and thus lead a life of its own.

That is why the FLF came up with the idea of presenting an overview of Flemish literature through its film adaptations. The presentation lasts about an hour, and contains fragments of 'Falling'(novel by Anne Provoost), 'Ben X' (based on a book by director Nic Balthazar) and 'The misfortunates' (novel by Dimitri Verhulst).

The compilation will be shown at the Flemish Literature Fund's booth on Friday October 8 at 11 am.
