Joost Vandecasteele nominated for Selexyz Prize

His debut novel 'Hoe de wereld perfect functioneert zonder mij' (The world is turning around just fine without me, De Arbeiderspers) has a chance of winning the prestigious Dutch prize which will be awarded in Amsterdam next month.

Five books are in the running for the Selexyz Prize 2010 for the best debut novel. Three Dutch writers have been nominated (Michiel Klein Nulent, Anke Scheeren and Franca Treur) as well as two Belgian authors (Joost Vandecasteele and Ivo Victoria). Both Joost Vandecasteele and Michiel Klein Nulent have also been nominated for the Academia Prize for starting novelists.

The jury, which is presided by Hans Keller, will announce the winner during the start of the literary autumn on 6 September 2010. The winner will receive a substantial amount of money so as to be able to write without financial difficulties.

Last year, the award went to the Dutch writer Bert Natter ('Begeerte heeft ons aangeraakt', Desire has touched us).
