‘Ergens waar je niet wil zijn', published by Oogachtend, is a hit with several foreign publishing houses and translations ought to follow very soon. Early 2010, French publisher Actes Sud already released its version ‘Les Noceurs', which received rave reviews in the French media. The English translation, titled ‘The wrong place', is soon to be published by the American-Canadian Drawn&Quarterly. A Spanish and a German translation are in the pipeline.
Brecht Evens wins first Willy Vandersteen Award
During the opening ceremony of Stripdagen Haarlem, the renowned international comics festival in the Dutch city of Haarlem, Flemish comics artist Brecht Evens received the very first Willy Vandersteen Award for his graphic novel ‘Ergens waar je niet wil zijn' (The wrong place). This new prestigious prize awards the best original Dutch-language comic book of the past two years. The prize is instituted by the Dutch-Flemish house deBuren in Brussels, Stripdagen Haarlem and Strip Turnhout. The winner of the award receives 5,000 EUR and the winning book is showcased in a travelling exposition in Flanders and the Netherlands.
