Carll Cneut nominated for two prestigious international awards

Five authors and five illustrators, selected from 55 international candidates, are in with a chance of winning the Hans Christian Andersen Award. Illustrator Carll Cneut is the only nominee from Flanders on the shortlist and he could become the first Belgian to win the prize. Belgians Bart Moeyaert and Klaas Verplancke have been nominated on previous occasions. Dutch nominees Annie M.G. Schmidt and Max Velthuijs both went on to win the award.


illustrator Carll CneutThe Hans Christian Andersen Award is regarded as the most important international prize for children's literature. The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) awards the prize every two years in recognition of the oeuvre of one author and one illustrator. Flemish university tutor and reviewer Annemie Leysen is one of the ten jury members.

 

Carll Cneut was also nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, another major international prize for literature for children and young people. Bart Moeyaert, Sylvia Vanden Heede and Klaas Verplancke also featured on the list of nominees. The prize is awarded to writers, illustrators, storytellers and organisations that promote reading. The winner is to be announced on 24 March in Astrid Lindgren's hometown in Sweden.
