FLF ready to inspire at Bologna Children's Book Fair

This year, the Flemish Literature Fund (FLF) will once again be present at the international children's book fair of Bologna, from 22 to 26 March. The FLF heads to Italy with a full schedule of meetings with foreign publishers, and it takes along two illustrators on its journey. Furthermore, there's the new catalogue ‘Dutch en Flemish Inspiration', which will be presented at the fair.

cover 'Inspiring historical novels from Flanders'The catalogue is a joint project of the FLF and the Dutch Foundation for Literature to put the spotlight on ten inspiring books. Five of which are Flemish historical youth novels: ‘Jonkvrouw' (Milady) by Jean-Claude van Rijckeghem and Pat van Beirs, ‘Papinette‘ by Kristien Dieltiens, ‘Dolores!' by Noëla Elpers, ‘Allemaal willen we de hemel' (We all want heaven) by Els Beerten and ‘Ik denk dat het liefde was' (I think it was love) by Kathleen Vereecken. The authors each wrote a piece about what has inspired them to write these novels.

Illustrators Kaatje Vermeire and Carll Cneut, a young emerging talent and a well-established name, travel along as a duo. The FLF considers it its duty to support young artists on their career path which inextricably needs to be an international one. The Dutch-language territory is too small for an illustrator to survive. Translations and publications abroad are a must.
