Kathleen Vereecken and André Sollie win Book Lion and Book Peacock Awards 2010

On 24 February, the winners of the awards for best author and best illustrator of children's and youth books were announced.

 

The Boekenleeuw (Book Lion) 2010 goes to author Kathleen Vereecken for her youth novel ‘Ik denk dat het liefde was' (I think it was love, Lannoo). Vereecken's novel tells the gripping story of Leon, supposedly the son of famous writer and philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

In addition, four honorary prizes were awarded:

  • Peter Van Olmen, ‘De kleine Odessa' (Little Odessa, Van Goor)
  • Laure Van den Broeck, ‘De 17e zomer van Maurice Hamster' (The 17th summer of Maurice Hamster, Clavis)

Boekenpluimen (Book Feathers) 2010:

 

 

  • Carll Cneut, ‘Fluit zoals je bent' (Whistle as you are, De Eenhoorn)
  • Gerda Dendooven, ‘Hoe het varken aan zijn krulstaart kwam' (How the pig got its curlytail, Querido)

 

 

The winners of the Book Lion and the Book Peacock as well as illustrator Carll Cneut published their books with the support of the Flemish Literature Fund.
