Launch French version of ‘The Angel Maker' by Stefan Brijs

‘Le Faiseur d'anges', the French translation of Stefan Brijs' novel ‘De engelenmaker' (‘The Angel Maker') will appear on 21 January with the support of the Flemish Literature Fund. It is published by Héloïse d'Ormesson, a Paris-based publishing house and translated by Daniel Cunin. Cunin, who previously translated works from amongst others Annelies Verbeke and Bart Moeyaert, is a guest at the Translators' House in Antwerp.

  • In ‘The Angel Maker' Brijs tells the intriguing story of Doctor Victor Hoppe whose main motivation in life is to clone.
  • Since its publication in 2005, the novel has been translated into nine languages: English, German, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Turkish, and now French. A Russian translation is expected soon.
  • Over 100.000 copies were sold of the original version of the book.
  • The novel has won the Gouden Uil Prijs van de Lezer (Golden Owl Readers' Award), the five-yearly prize for fiction and was nominated for both the Libris and AKO Literature Prizes. The English translation figures on the longlist for the prestigious International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. This is the largest and most international award of its kind.
  • A Dutch-language movie based on the novel is in the works at Prime Time, a Belgian independent film production company.

 

‘Le Faiseur d'anges' will be presented in the company of the author, Stefan Brijs, and the translator, Daniel Cunin, at Filigranes Book Store in Brussels on Friday 22 January at 18h00.
