Judith Vanistendael nominated in Angoulême

‘La jeune fille et le nègre. Tome 2 Babette et Sophie', the French translation of Judith Vanistendael's sequel of ‘De Maagd en de Neger' (The virgin and the negro), has a chance at winning one of the prestigious prizes which will be awarded during the international comics festival in Angoulême.

cover 'De maagd en de neger 2' by Judith Vanistendael58 comic books have been nominated for the Fauve d' Or award for the best comic book, 6 Fauves d'Angoulême awards in various categories and the Fauve Fnac-SNCF, the public award. All nominated titles were published in French between December 2008 and November 2009.

 

This is Vanistendael's second nomination. Last year, the first part of ‘The virgin and the negro' was in the running for a debut award. Previous Flemish artists who have been selected include Olivier Schrauwen (2007), Nix (2006, 2007) and Luc Cromheecke (1992, 1994).

 

The jury, which is presided by last year's winner Blutch, will announce the awards on the final day of the festival, 31 January 2010.
