‘The melancholy revolution' tells the story of Joris' stay in Hungary at a time when the Eastern bloc was falling apart. During the four times she visited the country in 1989 and 1990, the author witnessed key moments in history and tragic events. Her own impressions and conversations with several Hungarians are the foundations of the book.
‘The melancholy revolution' is one of many travel stories by Lieve Joris, some of which were already translated into Hungarian. ‘Terug naar Kongo' (‘Back to the Congo'), for instance, was also published by Gondolat Publisher in 2008. Excerpts of her work furthermore appeared in a number of Hungarian reviews.
The book presentation is organized by Gondolat Publisher and the Flemish Representation in Hungary, with support from the Flemish Literature Fund.
