Arabic version of ‘Slaap!' by Annelies Verbeke

‘Slaap!' (Sleep), the debut novel of Flemish author Annelies Verbeke will be translated into Arabic. Syrian-Lebanese publishing house Dar Cadmus will publish the book with the support of the Flemish Literature Fund.

cover 'Slaap!' Annelies VerbekeSince its publication in 2003, ‘Slaap!' has been translated into 15 languages, including French, Spanish, German, Finnish and a variety of Slavonic languages. Besides Arabic, translations into Georgian, Albanese and Russian are soon to be expected.

 

‘Slaap!' tells the story of Maya, who suffers from insomnia. When her boyfriend desperately fails her, she finds a friend in Benoit. Benoit is as sleepless as Maya, but royally trumps her in age. From their nocturnal encounter unfolds a strange yet tender relationship which may or may not last.
