A browse through 20 defiant comic worlds

The acclaimed three-dimensional comic exhibition ‘Ceci n'est pas la BD flamande' now has a virtual twin. It consists of an interactive platform which allows the visitor to enter the worlds of 20 Flemish comic artists by a simple mouse click.

'Ceci n'est pas la BD flamande'‘Ceci n'est pas la BD flamande' is a virtual version of the exhibition that wowed the International Comics Festival of Angoulême (France) in January 2009. The Flemish Literature Fund selected 20 comics artists with international potential to show their universe to the public. The coherence of the ensemble lies in the negation of the title: they find each other in what they do not want to be nor produce. They seek their artistic examples in and out of Flanders, they are open to influences from all over the world. They explicitly wish to create something new, something different.

The virtual exhibition includes bio- and bibliographical information on all 20 comics artists - Serge Baeken, Randall.C, Conz, Luc Cromheecke, Reinhart Croon, Pieter De Poortere, Brecht Evens, Stijn Gisquière, Ilah, Jeroen Janssen, KIM, Nix, Philip Paquet, Olivier Schrauwen, Kristof Spaey, Simon Spruyt, Stedho, Gerolf Van de Perre, Maarten Vande Wiele and Judith Vanistendael - as well as full pages from their books.

Their innovative ideas, literary creations and graphic styles lead to amazingly distinct results of impressive quality.

The virtual version of ‘Ceci n'est pas la BD flamande' is conceived to travel around the globe to international (comics) festivals and book fairs. The Flemish Literature Fund has so far had requests from Argentina, Chili and France. For more information, please contact Elise Vanoosthuyse.
