The First Novel Festival in Budapest is an annually recurring event which takes places during the book fair. Since 2004 the Flemish Literature Fund invites a new author to take part in the event. This year it was Rachida Lambaret's turn.
Rachida Lambaret is the author of the collection of short stories ‘Een kind van God' (A child of God) and the novel ‘Vrouwland' (Woman country), for which she won the Flemish Debut Prize in 2008. On 25 April, Lambaret shared the stage with a dozen authors from as many different European countries.
She also treated about 40 students of Dutch and their professors at the University of Károlyi to a reading, organized by the Flemish Representation in Hungary. The reading was part of the programme of a Flemish Culture Festival titled ‘Futurspektiv'.
The themes that are central in both Lambaret's books, identity and migration, drew a lot of attention. The media too showed interest and invited the author for interviews for the newspapers, a radio station and a literary review.
