Gezelle and van Tongele on Poetry International Web

During the month of May the international poetry website Poetry International Web (PIW) will focus on two poets from Flanders: Guido Gezelle (1830-1899) and Mark van Tongele.

cover 'Lichtspraak' by Mark Van TongeleRenowned translator Paul Vincent selected ten poems by Gezelle that have been translated into English, or an English dialect, in the past 100 years. PIW will for instance feature a translation by Francis Jones of one of Gezelle's poems in the Yorkshire dialect. Vincent will also portray Gezelle within world literature history, as he will link him to 19th century poetry in England.

Mark van Tongele (1956) too will be the centre of attention. Professor Yves T'Sjoen wrote a poet's portrait and David Colmer translated a selection of van Tongele's poetry into English.
