Successful London Book Fair

Flemish literature attracted a great deal of interest at the London Book Fair this year. In between 16 and 18 April, FLF staff had more than 50 meetings with publishers of prose, non-fiction, children's and youth literature, graphic novels and poetry.
Six Flemish novels in the spotlight at London Book Fair

In the past six months a few remarkable novels were published that the FLF would like to draw the attention of its foreign contacts to. Apart from four novels that are presented in 10 Books from Holland and Flanders the FLF wants to introduce two novels by rising stars of the Flemish literary world.
Flemish Representation in Budapest opens library and reading room

The Flemish Representation in Budapest has opened its new offices at Raday utca 58. This is the first foreign branch of the Flanders International Department with its own library and reading room.
FLF says goodbye to Carlo Van Baelen and welcomes Koen Van Bockstal

On Friday evening 20 January, the Mechelen bookshop De Zondvloed was too small to contain the annual New Year's reception held by the Flemish Literature Fund (FLF). So many people turned up that the reception had to move to the larger venue of Mechelen's historic meat market, the Oude Mechelse Vleeshalle. Minister Joke Schauvliege paid tribute to Carlo Van Baelen, who is retiring after twelve years as head of the fund. His successor is Koen Van Bockstal.
Brecht Evens and Olivier Schrauwen nominated for prestigious award at Angoulême

Brecht Evens and Olivier 'Ollie' Schrauwen have been nominated for the 'Prix du Meilleur Album' at the Angoulême Festival. Evens stands a good chance of winning the prize for 'Les Amateurs' ('De Liefhebbers') and Schrauwen for 'Le miroir de Mowgli'. The prize will be awarded on 29 January during the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée.

Guidelines translation grants online

The new guidelines and application forms for translation and production grants, grants for illustrated books and travel grants have been put online on the Flemish Literature Fund site. They take effect as of 1 January 2012. The major amendment to the first three guidelines is that payment of the grant in two parts has been replaced by one single payment on publication of the book .
Prix des Phares du Nord 2011 goes to Bertrand Abraham

The 2011 Prix des Phares du Nord jury has awarded the prize to Bertrand Abraham for his French translation of Gerard Reve's 'Op weg naar het einde' [On the Way to the End], (En route vers la fin, Paris: Phébus, 2010) This year, the jury consisted of Danielle Bourgois, Anita Concas and Margot Dijkgraaf.
Three graphic novelists receive FLF grant to attend Angoulême

The Flemish Literature Fund (FLF) will be taking three graphic novelists to the Angoulême international comic festival in 2012. Wauter Mannaert, Leen Van Hulst and Ivan Adriaenssens will be staying in the French comic capital from 26 to 29 January 2012. The FLF is awarding this grant to encourage comic artists to visit the comic Mecca and investigate on the spot the opportunities for international publication of their work.
FLF can look back on a successful Frankfurt Book Fair

Many foreign publishers keen to investigate new literary productions from Flanders were delighted with the Flemish Literature Fund's presence at the Frankfurt Book Fair. This year, the FLF had a spacious, inviting presentation and meeting area at the Flemish publishers' joint stand, a project that was made possible with the aid of financial and logistics contributions by Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) and the Flemish Publishers Association (VUV).
