Vijfjaarlijkse Prijzen van de KANTL (KANTL Five-yearly Awards)

The prize is awarded in five different categories. During a cycle of five years, each year another genre is awarded.

Genre: Essay, study of ancient language, culture and literature, poetry, fiction and drama

Frequency: five-yearly

Organization: Royal Academy for Dutch language and literature (KANTL), Ghent

Early in July 2010 Leo Vroman received the award for poetry, coming from the Royal College for Dutch Linguistics and Literature (KANTL). The poems in the album Soms is alles eeuwig (Sometimes everything is forever) are a serious but somehow also reassuring account of his own life's end and death. As a biologist and a poet, he describes everything in great detail and with physiological fascination. The jury also praised him for combining classic verse with new language structures and verbal twists.
