In the picture: graphic novelist Brecht Evens scores abroad

At the International Comic Festival in Angoulême, Flemish graphic novelist Brecht Evens has won the Prix de l'Audace, with 'Les noceurs' (Actes Sud), the French translation of Ergens waar je niet wil zijn. The prize is awarded to a provocative, bold graphic novel, that dares to question its own literary genre.

In 2005, Brecht Evens made his first album, 'Een boodschap uit de ruimte' (Van Halewyck). 'Ergens waar je niet wil zijn' is his fourth album and his international breakthrough. The experimental but highly understandable graphic novel has been translated into French (Actes Sud), into English (Drawn & Quarterly) and into German (Reprodukt). Soon, there will be translations into Spanish and Korean available. An Italian translation will follow soon.

And it looks at though Brecht Evens will continue his success story. He is also a guest at Bilbolbul, the international festival for children in Bologna. He has his own exhibition there, named 'Night Elegy', showing some original drawings. The festival runs from from 2 to 6 March, but the exhibition can be visited right up till the end of March.
