Prix Aujourd’hui for ‘Congo’ by David Van Reybrouck

This year the French literary prize ‘Prix Aujourd’hui’ goes to David Van Reybrouck for the French translation of ‘Congo. Een geschiedenis’ (Congo. A History). The prize, awarded for the first time in 1962 to a political or historical work, was presented on Wednesday 10 April in the city hall of the Parisian 6th arrondissement. David Van Reybrouck has already received prestigious prizes as the AKO Literatuurprijs and the Libris Geschiedenis Prijs for this book in the Low Countries. The book has been awarded several prizes in Germany as well.

David Van Reybrouck has received the prestigious French Prix Médicis for essay. The 41-year-old writer was awarded the prize for his book 'Congo, une histoire' (Actes Sud), the French edition of 'Congo, een geschiedenis' (De Bezige Bij), translated into French by Isabelle Rosselin. 'Congo' already won him the Libris Geschiedenisprijs, the J. Greshoffprijs and the AKO Literatuurprijs in 2010.

The prestigious German publishing house C.H. Beck Verlag recently published the translation of 'Beethoven. A biography' by Jan Caeyers. Caeyers is one of Europe's leading experts on Beethoven. He has written one of the few biographies to encompass the entire life and work of the composer, which sets him apart from most other biographers, who confine themselves to a chronological list of Beethoven's compositions.
