Ivo Michiels has received the America Award 2012 from The Contemporary Arts Educational Project for his lifetime contribution to international writing. It is the first time in its history that the prize has been awarded to a Flemish author.

Budapest-based publishers L'Harmattan recently published the Hungarian translation of 'Het verdriet van België', Hugo Claus' magnum opus about Louis Seynaeve. Translator Szabolcs Wekerle spent two years working on 'Belgium Bánata', as the book is entitled in Hungarian.
Tom Lanoye in Afrikaans and Maurice Gilliams in Swedish

Two new prose translations were recently released: Tom Lanoye's 'Sprakeloos' [Speechless] in Afrikaans and Maurice Gilliams' 'Elias of het gevecht met de nachtegalen' [Elias or The Struggle with the Nightingales] in Swedish. Both titles were translated and published with support from the Flemish Literature Fund.
Five Flemish writers on the Libris Literature long List

The long list for the Libris Literature Prize includes the names of five Flemish authors: Paul Mennes ('Het konijn op de maan'), Yves Petry ('De maagd Marino'), Leo Pleysier ('Dieperik'), Marc Reugebrink ('Menens') and Bart Vercauteren ('Het graf van de voddenraper'). The Libris Literature Prize is awarded tot the best Dutch-language novel of the past year.
French translation of Tom Lanoye's 'Sprakeloos'

'La langue de ma mère', the French translation of the Flemish author Tom Lanoye's novel 'Sprakeloos' (Speechless) was published at the beginning of January. The title is being published by the Parisian publishing house La Différence with support from the Flemish Literature Fund.
Stefan Brijs wins the Reader's Prize in Cognac

The novel 'The Angel Maker' ('Le faiseur d'anges') by Stefan Brijs has won the Reader's Prize (Prix des Lecteurs) at the literary festival in Cognac.
Koen Peeters wins F.Bordewijkprize 2010

The Flemish writer Koen Peeters has won the prestigious F. Bordewijkprijs 2010 for his novel 'The flowers'. The prize goes to the writer of the best fictional novel in Dutch. Peeters is also in the running for the AKO-Literature Prize, which brings along a prize money of 50.000 euros.
Erwin Mortier nominated for French Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger

'Sommeil des dieux', the French translation of Erwin Mortier's 'Godenslaap' (Divine Sleep), has been shortlisted for the Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger 2010. The translation is by Marie Hooghe, who has also translated other titles by Mortier, and it is published by Fayard (Paris).
Libris History Prize for David Van Reybrouck

'Congo, een geschiedenis' [The Congo, a History], by the Flemish author David Van Reybrouck has been awarded the Libris History Prize 2010. The prize is awarded annually to the author of the best Dutch-language historical book of the year. The award includes a cash prize of €20,000.
